i admit. i'm a sucker for satire. i can't resist books written like that. i borrowed a book from tourism academy library the other day and was reading it on the train today morning. i couldn't stop myself from am-chioing.. it was so damn funny, so instead of stopping, i'll just let everyone think i'm crazy... who cares.. haha.. they can stare at me till the cows come home and i'll still be smiling to myself.. :)
last day at luge today.. so SAD!!! i didn't get the job!! cos they have enough people for operator already.. but they said they will call me if they need more people.. *cross my fingers someone can't take it and quits* hehe.. but i'm gonna miss all the people there who made my deployment so fun!! yays!!
i did my final reflection for SSM just now.. lemme copy and paste the whole thing here..
"It's been four weeks since i stepped into RITS for service. So what have i been doing every monday for the past four weeks? Well, i had my deployment at Sentosa Luge.
My first day at Luge was quite uncomfortable. Because everyone there were total strangers and they looked so fierce with their reflective sunglasses! However, after some interaction, i found out that they were all very nice people. What i did at the Luge included instructing, where i taught guests how to control the luge cart. Also, i did the chairlift at both the top and bottem end. I also did what they called conveyer, where i had to stand at the end of the luge track and pull the luge carts onto the conveyer.
Every monday got more tiring than the last but i enjoyed it very much. As the weeks went on, i got more and more experienced with the jobs that i had to do and i think i did become more confident in what i was doing. So here's one thing that i brought back with me from deployment - Confidence.
I got first hand experience with tourists and that was an eye opener. I've never really had any chances to come into contact with so many tourists in one day until i got posted to the luge. People coming from all over the world, all congregated in a small island called Sentosa. I got to observe the behaviours of tourists from different countries, and coming into contact with them, i learnt how to deal with different tourists. So that's the second thing that i brought home with me from deployment - Knowledge.
I always thought that i was a person who would adapt to various situations very quickly. However, i guess i don't really know myself well yet. Especially, when i'm positioned at the chairlifts, i see things going out of hand. And i won't know what to do. But looking at the Luge staff handling the situation, say for example the guest couldn't get off the chairlift on time, i see them handling everything with a calm and relaxed disposition. I realize that to be in this industry, this is one thing that we should have. That is calmness in the face of adversity. Wait, adversity is too big a word. Well, what i want to say is to learn be calm when faced with diffiult situations, be it spilling a drink on a guest or serving a difficult guest. So that's also what i took home with me.
After four weeks at the Luge, I've actually learnt many new things. Today was the final day of deployment. After spending time to remember the names of the Luge staff we were working with, after all the joy and laughter, we've come to the end of the road. I know i'm being dramatic but well, i'm just trying to express how i'll miss everything there. I can't help being dramatic. I get attached to my job very easily, even if it's just four days. But oh well, i had alot of fun and i want to thank everyone, including our service instructors, for planning everything, from deployment to project execution. I had alot of fun taking this subject, even though i was apprehensive about it at the start of this semester. For whatever reasons, i just want to say a big thank you to whoever contributed to my learning in this subject!
I'm now going to end my reflection here because other than the above points, what i brought home with me also included blisters on my palms and back + shoulder aches. Ahh, not everything is as perfect as it seems. I'm going to rest my blister covered hands now. And with this, i conclude my reflections for the whole semester!"
very crap hor.. can't help it.. i'm both dramatic and crappy.. haha.. and i found a fellow liverpool fan today.. zaid.. though i can't help but suspect if he really is one.. he thinks crouch plays for man-u.. ???.. haha.. but oh well, we had fun talking football.. yays!
going to rest my fingers now.. blisters are killing me lah.. so pain.. and my back.. it's so painful.. there was a big clog-up just now at conveyer lah.. ppl just seem to be coming in non-stop.. i was like F*** all the way.. cos no one bothered to push their own luge back onto the conveyer.. so i had to do it.. though i had sarah and the luge guys at the conveyer also, it was chaotic as hell lah.. after all that, i just felt like puking.. and now, i'm feeling the aftermath of the conveyer clog-up.. back ache!! arrgh!!
